Now I’m going down a Wiki rabbit hole looking for games introduced in the 1900s, and I’ve stumbled on Panko–aka Votes for Women! That would certainly get Uncle M’s goat 🙂
Ha! I’ve found the perfect replacement — Whist, “meaning quiet, silent, attentive.” Just the sort of game the Uncles would approve of for young people 🙂
(and don’t worry, there’s a three-handed variant 😀 I wasn’t about to mess that up too!)
