For a second I was thinking, “Oh no, was the art in this one really *that* bad?!” XD
But after a quick once-over, the art seems to be its usual level of sloppiness, so I’ll assume you’re referring to the Uncles giving Owen the evidence of a crime as a present… What, they should let a perfectly good pony go to waste when they could score a bunch of Nice Uncle points with it instead?! It’s called being frugal, my friend! ?
It looks bad, but the Rag and Bone man would hold no value for really sinister uncles. No money, minimal skills, and too tough to eat. Oh, and very little blood to drain I’ll wager.

The rag-and-bones man was obviously dying from a terminal disease and gave the pony to uncles in exchange for decent burial.
It isn’t rocket science.
Why, rocket science hasn’t been invented yet.
